SolaRoad - solar cycle paths for the Netherlands

It is not known as fools, but with the roads in the Netherlands do not have any problems. This country is famous for its excellent road infrastructure, including designed for cyclists. There's now even started building bicycle paths SolaRoad, which are also solar power.

future roads

Three years ago, when the project of solar bikeways SolaRoad was first published in the media, it looks absolutely fantastic. It seemed that it would take more than a decade before these amazing infrastructure will be built. But in the autumn of 2014 in the Netherlands started to create the most unusual plant in the country.

This power plant, dubbed SolaRoad, will be rigged up across the country, flowing from city to city. The fact that it is a bicycle path, consisting of solar panels.

SolaRoad bikeways are built from modular elements dimensions two and a half to three and a half meters. From above they are covered by a protective layer thickness of about one centimeter. This protection protects the solar panel from external damage and prevents slipping bikes and people on a smooth surface.

Tests showed that the panel SolaRoad withstand the pressure not only bicycles and pedestrians, and even cars and trucks. In this case, derived from sunlight is enough electricity for lights along the tracks in the dark, as well as to send energy to the urban grid.

A city-wide solar cycle paths SolaRoad can become a major source of "green" energy. Because with them the whole country can turn into a giant spider web-power plant.
