Strati - the first car in the world printed on a 3D-printer

The American company Local Motors as part of a six-day exhibition of the Chicago International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), which began September 8, 2014, introduced the first car in the world printed on a 3D-printer. Visitors to the exhibition have witnessed the process of creating an electric "from scratch", which took 44 hours. The current working prototype runs on a battery and travels at a speed of 6.4 km / h. When the technology will be put into mass production, it will be enough for 193-241 km course and speed reaches 64 km / h. We must pay tribute to the developers, they did not forget about ordinary motorists: on the way model with a gasoline engine.

Basic settings with which to create the elements of a car Strati, is an industrial three-dimensional printer BAAM (Big Area Additive Manufacturing), manufactured by Cincinnati Incorporated. This installation has a capacity of about 20 kg per hour when printing special plastic ABS, reinforced carbon fiber that gives unusually printable items with relatively high strength and low weight. Working field installation BAAM measures 6 by 2.5 meters.
